Nonlinear dynamics of educational choices under social influence and endogenous returns

摘要
The paper develops a one-dimensional nonlinear dynamics model of education choices where heterogeneous agents (Followers vs Positional Agents) respond to peer enrolment and an endogenous wage premium; the interaction produces unimodal maps, period-doubling bifurcations and a route to deterministic chaos for intermediate population mixes, while homogeneous populations remain stable — implying coordination failures that scramble economic signals and hinder planning [page::0][page::3][page::6][page::8][page::14].
