Agentic Delegation and the Language Frontier of Software Developers: A Model and Evidence from Claude Code on GitHub

摘要
We develop and test a model of agentic delegation in software production, showing that a second-generation agent like Claude Code expands the feasible language portfolio by lowering entry thresholds for unfamiliar languages, producing a measurable spike in active and newly-used languages and a rising language entropy around adoption [page::2][page::3][page::4]. In a 28-month GitHub panel of 5,346 developers, language breadth expands sharply around first detectable Claude Code use: active languages rise by 2.5 in the adoption month (baseline 0.9), newly-used languages rise by 1.2, entropy increases by 0.38, and the cumulative stock of languages continues to grow thereafter [page::3]. The results persist to robustness checks excluding Claude-co-authored commits, controlling for activity volume, and screening competing agentic tools, consistent with the agentic-delegation mechanism but interpreted as event-time associations rather than definitive causality given potential project shocks [page::4].
