Do Cure Violence Programs Reduce Gun Violence? Evidence from New York City
创建于 更新于
摘要
Cure Violence is a violence reduction program aiming to mediate conflicts and alter norms to reduce gun violence. Using NYC shooting data (2006-2023) and a difference-in-differences approach, the study finds a persistent 14% reduction in shootings in treated precincts compared to controls, with suggestive spillover effects into adjacent precincts. The analysis, controlling for alternative explanations and police activity, estimates about 1,300 shootings prevented between 2012-2023, yielding a net social benefit of $2.45 billion and a benefit-cost ratio of 6.5:1 for Cure Violence in NYC [page::0][page::1][page::9][page::10][page::12][page::16][page::19].
